The word Caroche is taken from the name of the designer Catherine Andrea Rocheford, a textile and accessories designer living and working in Barbados. Catherine works in brass, copper and sterling silver to create her pieces and enhances them with semi-precious stones, pearls, abalone, bone, wood and shells. Her designs are eclectic, heavily rooted in her mixed ethnicity, education and travels but drawing significantly from the African heritage of her country of birth.
Her designs celebrate the handmade culture and thus retain the marks from the tools used in their creation. Although similar in design, no two items are exactly the same, allowing for the uniqueness of the individual product. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, Catherine uses her background in art, fashion, corporate interior design and education to fine tune her imagery, culminating in the pieces created for caroche.design and sharing a piece of Barbados with the world.
