Inspired Caribbean

Dear friends and fashion lovers welcome to caroche.design!

I’m Catherine Rocheford, your resident textile and accessories designer – writing to you from Barbados. From as early as 17 years old, I knew I wanted to design! it seems like such a long time ago from frolicking along the shore of the azure Caribbean sea to (…University), but in that time I’ve manages to discover it’s actually who I am, who I’ve always been. My vision has always been to use my mixed heritage, education and experiences to create a brand which is cool and effortless with an ethnic overtone that reflects my special individuality.

This website is my first virtual storefront, and I’m so excited to be able to share unique Caribbean bohemian inspired fashion with you!

The genesis for the creation of my designs is play. I love the feel of metal and I play around with shapes, textures, balance and proportion to create the shapes for the pieces. I also love patinas and I’m particularly drawn to the green patina on brass which gives the pieces that antiqued look of being exposed to the atmosphere for a long time.

Is There Anything Lovelier Than Seeing The Tool Marks Of Artisanry?

I love to see the tool marks; The work is deliberately left with slight imperfections because they give my designs life, the feeling of the hand behind the work. My designs are not planned in the initial stage and I try to clear my thoughts as I don’t want to have any preconceived ideas affecting the ability of the shapes to form under my hand. I let the metal speak to me as I work. I have a habit of clearing my workspace before I start designing, so that my only focus is on what is directly in front of me. I let the shapes flow, often arranging and rearranging the pieces of metal or beads as the case may be until the balance is just right.
